Your Testosterone Therapy Treatment Process

Testosterone therapy restores balance to hormone levels, improving a man’s quality of life and helping him feel like himself again. Many prospective patients are curious about the testosterone therapy treatment process. At Beyond Human in Parker and Aurora, CO, it all begins with a consultation.

The Initial Consultation

Your initial free wellness pre-screening appointment can be conducted in person at Beyond Human’s Parker, CO, clinic, located near Challenger Regional Park and not far from Centennial Airport. You can also visit our Aurora, CO, clinic in Stanley Marketplace, where there are a number of popular dining and shopping options. Additionally, we offer telehealth appointments.

During your TRT consultation, you and a wellness expert will discuss your low-testosterone symptoms, particularly their frequency and severity. Your wellness expert will perform a physical examination and ask you questions about your medical history. They will then go over the details of the testosterone therapy treatment process and tell you about the results that can be achieved.

Blood tests must be conducted to evaluate your testosterone levels. At the consultation, your wellness expert will discuss your results and what they mean. They will use this information to create your personalized testosterone replacement therapy treatment plan.

Testosterone Dosage and Frequency

During your consultation, your wellness expert will prescribe you a specific dosage of testosterone based on the details of your case. Your baseline testosterone levels, age, weight, overall health, cause of low testosterone, symptoms, and method of testosterone administration all help to determine your optimal dosage. Frequency of administration can also affect dosage, as can the timing of the administration method.

Typically, the starting dosage will be on the lower side in order to get the body used to the treatment. This helps minimize side effects. The dosage is then slowly increased until it reaches normal levels.

Beyond Human’s testosterone therapy can be delivered using one of two methods: injections and pellets.

Hormone pellets are implanted beneath the skin of an area like the buttock or the hip. They gradually release testosterone into the bloodstream over the course of three to six months, optimizing hormone levels.

Injections are delivered into the muscle of areas like the upper arm, thigh, or buttock. Short-acting injections are delivered one to two times a week, whereas long-acting injections are delivered every two to four weeks.

Short-acting testosterone injections usually start at 50 to 100 mg per injection, while long-acting injections typically start at 100 to 200 mg. For pellets, patients are prescribed anywhere from two to six pellets, each of which is 75 mg to 150 mg.

It’s vital that you follow your prescribed dosage and schedule as closely as possible to ensure accurate monitoring of progress. Incorrectly timed administration of testosterone or missed doses can result in side effects or ineffective treatment.

Monitoring Changes

Regular monitoring is vital to ensure efficacy and safety during treatment. Once you’re taking your testosterone supplements, you’ll need to regularly check in with your wellness expert at Beyond Human. In some cases, this can be done in person, while in others, it can be done via telehealth appointment.

During check-ins, you’ll speak with your wellness expert regarding changes in symptoms, along with any side effects. You’ll need to have your testosterone levels evaluated regularly with blood tests. These tests should be performed in the morning, since this is when testosterone levels are highest. Blood tests may also be ordered to evaluate liver function, cholesterol levels, bone density, and red blood cell count.

Based on the information gathered from these check-ins, your wellness expert may increase or decrease your testosterone dosage. They may change dosage intervals or the treatment modality as needed. Do not make any dosage changes on your own.

The first blood test will usually be ordered after a few weeks, and then blood tests may be conducted every few months. You’ll also need a physical exam every three to six months.

Monitoring is not only vital for proper calibration, it’s also important because patients’ natural testosterone levels may change. Aging, stress, health changes, and lifestyle changes can all create the need for testosterone therapy dosage adjustments.

Remember that testosterone replacement therapy is a commitment and that results can take time. Patience is key.
